One’s life is comparable to many things, including a football game consisting of four quarters.

A person’s age and quality of health typically determine which quarter of the game of life they are currently in. As for myself and those of us in my age group, we find ourselves in the 4th Quarter or have very little time remaining in the 3rd Quarter.

The 4th Quarter of a football game, much like the latter stages of life, is a critical time. In many instances, it is the period of time that ultimately determines whether or not a team or a person achieves success.

Many mistakenly believe that it is too late to achieve success during the final quarter of their lives. However, history is full of examples of individuals who achieved remarkable success at age 60 - and many others far beyond.

For instance, Harland Sanders (a.k.a. Colonel Sanders) was 62 years old when he founded KFC, Anna Mary Robertson Moses (a.k.a. Grandma Moses) began her painting career at age 78, and Harry Bernstein started writing when he was 93 and gained literary fame with the publication of hist first novel at age 96.

Regardless of your age, if God has blessed you with another day of life this morning, He expects you to live your life purposefully and productively - not to just merely exist. As Psalm 92:14 proclaims, "They shall still bear fruit in old age," and this is indeed true.

Those who believe that they cannot a significant contribution to better the world due to health-related issues are mistaken. If one is still mentally sound and capable of speaking, they have the power to share their words of wisdom with others. This knowledge can be passed on indefinitely, positively impacting multiple generations.

Many view the 4th Quarter as the end of life and a time for retirement, mistakenly believing that their most productive years of life are behind them. Conversely, others possess an entirely different perspective and see the 4th Quarter as a potential peak in their lives, filled with opportunities for productivity.

The final quarter is a crucial period in one’s life when one can choose to live a life of mere existence or a life of significance. If you’re included among those who think they are too old or unwell to be productive or successful, always keep the faith. Remember that God is with every one of us throughout our journey in life and that He will provide us with strength until the day we die.

As 1 Corinthians 1:8 reminds us, “He will strengthen us to the end,” so embrace every day that God blesses you with and strive to make a positive impact on the world.
